According to Politico, during a virtual meeting on November 22 with employees of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), billionaire Elon Musk told colleagues that current U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is highly likely to become the next occupant of the White House.
Sources said that in the closed-door remarks, Musk predicted the U.S. is entering “12 bright years,” consisting of President Trump’s second term followed by two consecutive terms under Vance.
Politico also noted that Musk, a former DOGE leader, still maintains a close relationship with Vice President Vance. Earlier, in August, President Trump said it was too early to determine who would be the Republican candidate for the 2028 presidential election. However, he acknowledged that Vice President Vance is “the most likely successor.”

“It’s too early to say, but he is certainly doing very well and will likely receive support when the time comes,” Trump said of his “right-hand man.”
Even so, Trump has repeatedly hinted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could become Vance’s future running mate.
In an interview with Fox News in October, the host cited reports claiming Trump had previously named Secretary Rubio as someone who could carry on the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.
When asked whether he would run in 2028 if endorsed by President Trump, Secretary Rubio responded, “I believe the next Republican nominee will be Vice President Vance, if he decides to run.”
The next U.S. presidential election is scheduled for 2028, and Vance has not yet outlined a clear campaign plan.
Under the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, a president may only be elected to two terms. President Trump also said in August that he “probably will not” run again after his second term. When asked about his potential succession within the Republican Party, Vice President Vance said the President wants him to focus on the administration’s current responsibilities.
Asked whether he sees himself as the heir to the MAGA movement, Vance replied, “No. I’m just a Vice President trying to do a good job for the American people. If I do well and the President continues to succeed, politics will work itself out. We’ll deal with that when the time is right.”
He added that the 2026 midterm elections are the next key milestone for American voters before the race for the White House in 2028.
