“This was not a coincidence — it was sabotage, three times at the United Nations. They should be ashamed. I have sent a copy of this letter to the UN Secretary-General, and I demand an immediate investigation,” Trump wrote angrily on Truth Social on September 24.
Trump said that when he arrived at the UN to deliver his address on September 23, three separate malfunctions occurred: the escalator he and his wife Melania stepped onto suddenly stopped, his teleprompter went dark for the first 15 minutes of his speech, and the sound system in the hall was completely cut off.
Speaking about the escalator incident, Trump warned it could have been a “real disaster.” “Fortunately, Melania and I did not fall face-first onto the sharp metal edges of the steps,” he said.
The president urged officials to preserve surveillance footage from the escalator area, adding that the Secret Service is also involved in the investigation. The United Nations has not yet responded to his latest claims.
However, on September 23 the UN explained that the escalator stoppage may have been triggered accidentally when a White House cameraman pressed its safety button. Officials also noted that the teleprompter during Trump’s speech was being operated by White House staff.
