The move comes a few weeks after President Donald Trump deployed the forces to these cities in response to what he described as rising crime.

A spokesperson for California Governor Gavin Newsom said the U.S. Department of War had notified Oregon state authorities that National Guard members would begin pulling out of the state.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said the state had not yet received any notice from the federal government regarding the withdrawal. According to an anonymous defense official, 200 California National Guard troops had been sent to Portland, while 200 members of the Texas National Guard were deployed to Chicago. The withdrawal process began on November 16.
