On September 30, President Donald Trump unveiled his initiative to cut drug costs, which includes the creation of the TrumpRx platform. The website will allow people to purchase medications online at discounted rates.
The announcement follows Trump’s executive order on the Most Favored Nation (MFN) policy, which requires pharmaceutical companies to create direct-to-consumer distribution channels, bypassing intermediaries. According to Chris Klomp, an official at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), TrumpRx.com will increase transparency, provide better pricing, and in some cases lower drug costs by as much as 80%.
Officials expect the site to launch early next year. While TrumpRx will not directly sell or distribute medicines, consumers will be able to search for drugs on the site and then be redirected to manufacturers’ direct sales channels.
The move comes after months of pressure from President Trump urging pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug prices for American patients. Trump acknowledged that this policy might lead to higher drug prices abroad but emphasized that costs in the U.S. would fall—something he described as “fair.”
