The hallway displays black-and-white portraits of former presidents. However, for Biden, the administration replaced his portrait with a picture of the autopen — a device that replicates a person’s signature to sign large volumes of documents without their direct involvement. Trump has long mocked Biden for relying on the device, claiming the former president did not know what he was signing.
Earlier this year, Trump announced he had voided a series of Biden’s pardons for members of the Capitol riot inquiry committee, arguing the documents had been “signed automatically.”
According to AFP, swapping Biden’s portrait with an image of the autopen marks the boldest move yet in Trump’s renovation of the White House. Previously, Trump ordered Barack Obama’s portrait removed from its original spot and replaced it with his own.
