“President Trump is the most influential president of our lifetime and also a resident of Palm Beach County. Therefore, honoring him by naming the airport after him is completely reasonable,” Weinberger said in a statement.
A spokesperson from her office confirmed that she officially submitted the bill this week. Trump’s Air Force One often lands at PBI because it is close to his Mar-a-Lago residence.
More than ten commercial airports in the United States are named after presidents, including John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.
In January, North Carolina Representative Addison McDowell and several other Republicans also proposed renaming Dulles International Airport in Virginia after President Trump.
According to the PBI website, the airport has been ranked by U.S. Customs and Border Protection as having the shortest security wait times in the nation. Between May 2023 and May 2024, the airport welcomed over 8 million passengers, a record high.
