At around 2 p.m., York County’s 911 center received a call about a violent incident in Spring Grove, a small farming community along Haar Road. Responding officers came under fire while executing an arrest warrant, NBC News reported, citing three sources. The suspect was killed at the scene. The two surviving officers, though critically injured, are now in stable condition.
“I have no words to ease the pain this community is enduring,” said Colonel Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner.
Witness Dave Miller recalled pulling over to let police vehicles pass before hearing a barrage of gunfire. “I saw officers inside a barn, it looked like they were searching for someone,” he said. “Then I heard shots—someone was down on the ground. There must have been 30 rounds, more than I could count.”
Federal and state agencies, including the FBI and ATF, joined local authorities at the scene. “Violence against law enforcement is a scourge on society and can never be tolerated,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro offered condolences to the families, calling it “a tragic, devastating day” for York County and the state.
The shooting comes just seven months after York County officer Andrew W. Duarte of the West York Patrol was killed while responding to a hostage situation at a hospital.
