The incident occurred on November 6, during a press conference about weight-loss drug policy held by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Oval Office. A pharmaceutical company executive suddenly collapsed onto the floor. At that moment, U.S. President Donald Trump, who was sitting behind his desk, immediately stood up and observed the situation while people around rushed to help. One of them was Dr. Mehmet Oz, the director of CMS.
“I want to tell you a story about the President’s kindness,” said Dr. Oz, 65. He explained that while he was standing in the hallway calling the wife of the man who fainted, Trump approached him and asked, “Who are you talking to?” After learning who was on the other end of the line, the President said, “Give me the phone.”
“He spoke with the wife and calmed her down — much better than I could,” Dr. Oz said. “I think he was amazing. He could have been doing many other things, but he took the time to care about the feelings of a woman he didn’t even know, just to ease her worries.”
Dr. Oz also advised, “If you see someone start to collapse and their vision fades, don’t hesitate. Often they’re injured more by the fall than by the underlying issue, such as low blood sugar.”
“Hold them, even if you don’t know them,” he said. “Gently help them lie on the floor and lift their legs to raise blood pressure.”
