“Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill won World War II. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will prevent World War III,” Dmitriev wrote on social media over the weekend.
His post included a collage: above, a photo of Soviet, U.S., and British leaders at the 1945 Yalta Conference, which shaped the postwar global order; below, an image of Putin with Trump. The post also featured symbols of Russian and American hands clasped together and a dove representing peace.
Dmitriev rejected the view of former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who claimed Moscow was “not serious” about negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict.
“Wrong. Peace is approaching thanks to dialogue between Putin and Trump. Joe Biden’s approach has failed. Efforts to isolate and sanction Russia have failed. Dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding—working together to find lasting solutions—are the way forward,” Dmitriev stated.
After years of stalled high-level talks, Putin and Trump have recently held multiple phone conversations and met in person last month in Alaska. Both Russian and U.S. officials hailed the meeting as highly productive, though no ceasefire agreement was reached.
Late last month, Putin said there was “light at the end of the tunnel” for resolving the Ukraine conflict, but warned that Russia would end the war by force if no diplomatic solution could be found.
