Speaking on November 30, Trump noted that Ukraine was “facing some minor difficulties,” referring to a recent corruption investigation that led to the resignation of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak. “However, I believe there is a good opportunity for us to achieve an agreement,” he said.
His comments came after a lengthy multi-hour meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Florida. Both sides described the talks as productive, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that more work is needed before a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine can be finalized.

“This is a very delicate and complex matter. There are many influencing factors, and another party will be joining the process. That will continue when Special Envoy Steve Witkoff travels to Moscow,” Rubio said.
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council and head of Kyiv’s delegation, said he had informed President Zelensky of the “significant progress” made during the talks. “What matters is that the discussions remain constructive and that all issues are addressed openly, with a clear focus on safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and national interests,” he noted.
However, a source close to the Ukrainian delegation admitted that reaching an agreement “will not be easy, as the parties still need to search for formulas and solutions.” Another source added that Washington aims to finalize key points before negotiations begin in Moscow.
Last week, the United States put forward a peace proposal aimed at ending the conflict, seeking to persuade both Moscow and Kyiv to accept it. The initial 28-point draft reportedly called for Ukraine to relinquish part of its territory, limit the size of its armed forces, and halt its pursuit of NATO membership.
The proposal faced strong opposition from Ukraine and several European nations. Some clauses have been removed in the revised draft, though its latest contents have not been publicly disclosed.
